The Get It Straight Podcast

Black Orthodontics

The Get It Straight Podcast has returned!

As always, our goal is to highlight the best and brightest in the field of orthodontics. Today, we’ll be talking with the good people from over at Black Orthodontics. Joining the conversation is team member Heather Blalock, along with Dr. Black himself!

Their practice is located in Asheville, North Carolina, and they’ve served the community with stronger smiles for quite a while. Dr. Black alone has been in the field for over three decades, and his experience shows in his top level treatment of clients. Read on to learn more!

How Orthodontics Equates To More Family Time

Turning the clocks back to his entry into the field, Dr. Black says he knew this was the path for him in dental school.

“No disrespect to a,l my good dentist buddies, but I knew I wasn’t going to end up being a dentist.” It was between braces, and becoming an all out dental surgeon.

The key factor in his decision making was the overall time commitment of the latter. He reasoned that such a path would be too demanding, taking away from much needed, quality family time. The orthodontic field offered the perfect opportunity for both flexibility and a livable wage.

Listen To The Get It Straight Podcast

Dr. Black is sure to note that none of this would be possible without a strong, competent team of colleagues.

This wonderful practice is yet another example of just how favorable a career in the field is for those with the passion and skillset. It’s a grind, no doubt, but by all accounts, it’s more than worth it.

The Get It Straight Podcast would like to thank Dr. Black and Heather for talking with us. You can listen to the full discussion above. The Get It Straight Podcast

Featuring The On Demand Orthodontist

Welcome back to the Get It Straight Podcast! Today, we’ll be meeting with the founders of one of the most revolutionary add ons to the orthodontic space to date. The On Demand Orthodontist allows practitioners to conduct the majority of their work remotely.

Piloting this novel concept are Dr. John Warford, and Judd Johns. Check out the clip above to hear about their experiences, as well as how their solutions are giving providers a much needed reprieve in their daily routine. You can also listen to the clip via our SoundCloud, linked below.

How ODO Was Born

The idea of Demand Orthodontist began with Dr. Warford’s introduction to aligner therapy. One of the most glaring issues that comes with the exclusivity of orthodontics is distance. Many patients are forced to drive inconvenient distances for regular check ups. But as Dr. Warford’s success with aligner therapy took off (over 90% of his patients are now on this path), so did his interest in virtual orthodontics.

The pair proved to be a perfect match, as it provided value and alleviation to both the doctor and the patients. He was even able to work up collaborations with a long time partner that had previously moved far across the state. Fast forward, and now he and Judd Johns have come together to truly maximize the effort.

Why GIS Exists

The Get It Straight Podcast is committed to providing valuable information to those interested in the orthodontic space. Innovations like The On Demand Orthodontist are prime examples of the opportunities the field presents its participants.

To learn more, be sure to check out ODO’s website. “It’s disruptive, but it’s a win, win, win for everyone,” proclaims Dr. Warford. It’s a peak into what will likely be the future of orthodontics.

Listen above as Dr. Warford talks about what led him to the field, and what he’s learned after treated over 10,000 patients in the past two decades.

Finding Your Way As An Orthodontist

The origins of Dr. Warford’s love for orthodontistry begin with his father. Also an esteemed, Dr. Warford’s father was the spark that pushed him into the arena. The lucrative, self starting opportunity that it would prove to be was also a great selling point.

This wouldn’t be a simple task though. As Dr. Warford notes in the clip, there’s about a single percent of chance that ortho hopefuls will actually go to residency. Part of this competition comes from how tedious and technically demanding of a profession that it is.

GIS Will Return

How to Reprioritize Marketing Efforts for COVID-19

Here are five things that companies can do to offset some of the revenue and sales pipeline losses associated with COVID-19.

A lightbulb with a pink filament. The bottom of the lightbulb is blue and pointed.

1. Focus on creating SEO-focused content as part of your marketing efforts for COVID-19

Consider asking ALL EMPLOYEES to start writing content. Especially those who have less on their plate right now.
Create a content calendar for your employees, and get everyone involved in the effort. Have an agency support your content creation by performing keyword research and creating content assignments for people to write.
Get invested in this now, and your organization could produce an incredible amount of lead-generating content by the time things get back to normal.
Creating SEO-focused content can help bring in an influx of new leads in Q4 to make up for the leads and sales you are missing now. And even better – this work will have a lasting impact on your digital footprint, and may even help generate leads for years to come.

2. Invest in targeted non-branded paid search campaigns.

Think about each of your offerings, and create a specific paid search campaign for each one to bring in new leads.
This approach can put a lot more leads into your pipeline and plant the seeds for sales that materialize in Q3 or Q4.

If you do it right (super-targeted ads, keywords, and landing pages), you can start creating these new leads very inexpensively. Check out this case study about how we created 12 new non-branded leads for $280 in ad spend.

3. Consider paid social campaigns in your marketing efforts for COVID-19

During this period of social distancing, there will be a lot more people on social media.
With paid social campaigns, you can start to raise awareness about your brand and your products.
You can also begin to gather a lot of information about people who might be interested in your offerings by the time this crisis has waned.
Paid social campaigns are an excellent option for companies where brand awareness is crucial.
Strategically placed paid social campaigns can also benefit companies with an incredibly unique, timely, or special offer.

4. Focus on your website.

During slower periods, you can give more attention to building or augmenting your website.
If you have a website project on the horizon, now is a smart time to get it launched and have it ready in time for the market when the crisis calms down.

5. Make your conferences virtual.

If you have a conference on the horizon that poses a health risk, consider building a virtual version rather than canceling altogether.
Leverage live streaming services for keynote speakers, set up messaging services for real-time participation, and create breakout rooms for networking.
Find ways to up the ante like offering virtual solutions and consultations for attendees and creating forums for people in your industry to talk about ways they are dealing with the COVID-19 crisis.

Moments of crisis can cause a lot of anxiety.

Rather than focus on the thoughts and worry, we hope impacted businesses can use these ideas to expand their digital footprint and reprioritize their marketing efforts for COVID-19.
