Welcome to episode six of our series of pods recorded at the 2022 AAO convention. This clip features Dr. Chris Cosse as our special guest host. The topic of today? Getting a firsthand perspective of orthodontic residents and their common experiences.
Dr. Lindsay Diaz and Dr. Kelsea Ashton were kind enough to sit down with us to bare the nitty gritty of their time as residents. Dr. Diaz is in the first year of a three year program at The University of Maryland. Dr. Ashton, on the other hand, is currently in her third year of the same program.
One of the main exciting attributes of this year’s conference that caught our guests eyes is the exhibit hall. So many different key players across a range of orthodontic aspects gathered to show off their contributions and products. It really speaks to how much the space has to offer in terms of resources and tech.
“It’s very overwhelming, actually,” admits Dr. Ashton. This leads to a pretty in depth discussion regarding the presence of women in orthodontics. The previous prediction was that it’d be a full decade before the demographic of orthos was 50/50 men and women. But if this year’s conference was any indication, we very well may be reaching the point sooner than later!
